Moving In and Out

Moving is exciting — and stressful. Knowing that, ¶¶Òõpro tries to make the process of moving to and from campus as easy as possible.

If you’ll return to SLU campus housing next year, you can even arrange to leave your packed items in your room at the end of the semester and find them waiting for you next fall in your new room.

Access During Breaks

For the 2024-2025 academic year, buildings will remain open over the break periods, but will have limited support and dining options. Students must sign up with housing if they plan to stay over the Thanksgiving, winter or spring breaks.

Moving Out

You are expected to leave your room or apartment in as good or better condition than it was found. Failure to clean your space appropriately will result in charges, as will any damage. All personal effects must be removed; failure to do so will also result in additional fees. SLU is not responsible for abandoned personal property.

Checking Out

Meet with your resident adviser before moving, then choose the regular or express checkout method.

Regular Checkout

Check out of your room with any resident adviser from your building, using the room or apartment condition inventory form on file.

Express Checkout

Place your key in an express checkout envelope and turn it in at your building’s service desk. After you leave, housing and residence life staff will review your room or apartment condition inventory form. When using the express checkout option, you implicitly accept that review.

Cleaning

Everyone in the room or suite is responsible for cleaning the space upon moving out. To leave your room in the best condition possible, take the following steps:

  • Remove all personal belongings.
  • Vacuum and sweep floors. Dust wall trim and baseboards. Use a wet mop on hard surfaces.
  • Remove scuff marks, spots and spills.
  • Clean any dirt, hair, soap film or stains in the sink.
  • Scrub sink, tub and shower with disinfectant.
  • Scrub toilet inside and out.
  • Clean mirrors with glass cleaner.
  • Remove tape, adhesive, stickers, posters and marks from walls.
  • Wash down walls, light socket covers, A/C units and heater vents.
  • Wipe down all shelves, surfaces and drawers, as well as window sills and blinds.
  • Remove all garbage. Clean trash receptacles.
  • Remove all food from refrigerator. Clean the appliance inside and out.
  • Clean stovetop and sink, inside oven, under and around burners.
  • Clean hood fan and vent filter.
Summer Storage

If you’ll return to housing at SLU next year, can remove boxes from your current space, store them for the summer, and then deliver the items to your fall room assignment.
