¶¶Òõpro’s Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences combines strong classroom and field-based instruction with internationally recognized research.
The department offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs including traditional doctoral programs and innovative undergraduate programs that provide unique, campus-wide learning experiences.
¶¶Òõpro is home to the first geophysics department in the western hemisphere and our research spans across a broad spectrum of the physical sciences. You will have the opportunity to work directly with faculty on their research and participate in internships through the department’s growing network of professionals in the public and private sectors.
Student Experience
Undergraduate Programs Earth and Atmospheric Science
As an undergraduate student in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, you will spend time with faculty and graduate students in and outside of the classroom.
If you’re pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree, you will take fewer humanities core courses, instead focusing on developing sciences and mathematics skills. If you’re pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree, you will take a variety of liberal arts courses to prepare you for careers related to your major.
Graduate Programs in Earth and Atmospheric Science
Whether your interests lie in environmental science, geology, geophysics, geographic information science or meteorology, the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Science’s graduate program has an option for you.
You’ll work alongside professionals in the industry and closely with professors to gain hands-on experience relevant to your major. Research will guide your education, with the opportunity for funding from major external organizations like the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Access to workstations with specialty software will aid your research and understanding of earth and atmospheric sciences.
