SLU Dean Named Creighton University Provost
08/18/2020
Mardell Wilson, Ed.D., dean of the Edward and Margaret Doisy College of Health Sciences (DCHS), has been appointed the new provost at Creighton University in Omaha, NE. Wilson will assume her new position on Friday, Oct. 1. She has served at dean of DCHS since 2014 and is a member of the University Leadership Council.
"Mardell’s departure is a great loss for SLU, but she is an excellent administrator who richly deserves this opportunity," said Interim Provost Michael Lewis, Ph.D. "I thank her for her many contributions to the University and to the success of her college."
Among the many accomplishments Wilson has achieved during her six-year tenure as dean:
- Completed a transparent and inclusive strategic planning process that resulted in a three-year strategic map; process was recently repeated with unanimous college wide endorsement for a plan that will take the college into 2022.
- Successfully transitioned the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders from the College of Arts and Sciences to DCHS.
- Established enhanced diversity efforts as a major development initiative and secured external funding to support the establishment of a summer program for high school students from diverse backgrounds to learn about the various allied health professions.
- Significantly enhanced research support efforts from the Dean’s Office including the establishment of an incentive program for faculty to write grants with indirect costs, launched a peer-reviewed publication support program and enhanced support for investigators for grant development.
"It has truly been a privilege to serve as dean of the Doisy College of Health Sciences and I have been blessed to work with an amazing group of colleagues at SLU," said Wilson. "Fortunately, I will continue to work at a leading Jesuit university with a mission similar to SLU’s. The hardest part about leaving is the students, faculty, staff and administrators I’ve come to know, who have made working at the University so enjoyable."
Lewis said he will be meeting with DCHS faculty leaders, department chairs and dean’s office faculty and staff to develop processes for selecting an interim dean prior to Wilson’s departure.
