Applications Open for Expanded Ignatian Teaching Fellowship

As a way of expanding the opportunity of our successful Innovative Teaching Fellowship program, the Paul C. Reinert, S.J., Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning is calling for applications for the Ignatian Teaching Fellowship.
The program supports faculty in designing a new course, or undertaking a significant redesign of an existing course in one of three categories:
Teaching in the Learning Studio (a highly-flexible, technology-rich experimental classroom)
This option serves those faculty who are (re)designing an in-person course to incorporate innovative pedagogical strategies and learning technologies. During the teaching term of the fellowship, the course must be taught in the Reinert Center’s Learning Studio (Des Peres Hall, 213)
Teaching a Large Enrollment Course (40 or more students)
This option serves faculty who are (re)designing an in-person course that enrolls 40 or more students per section to develop innovative pedagogical approaches to active learning in large classes. During the teaching term of the fellowship, the course will be taught in the classroom normally assigned by the registrar for that course.
Teaching a Distance Course
This option serves faculty who are (re)designing a distance course to create engaging and accessible learning opportunities. During the teaching term of the fellowship, the course will be taught online and asynchronously.
This competitive, two-term fellowship provides either a $3,000 stipend or funding to cover a 1-course reduction in teaching to support innovative course (re)design and instructional development activities during the term prior to teaching the fellowship course, and ongoing instructional development support during the term of teaching the fellowship course.
The course development phase of the fellowship (term one) includes participating in weekly meetings with a Reinert Center Instructional Developer; creating and/or revising course materials; and submitting a mid-term and end-of-term report on progress.
The teaching phase of the fellowship (term two) includes teaching the course in continued contact with the Reinert Center Instructional Developer and sharing one’s fellowship experience with the larger SLU community.
The current call for applications is for the following fellowship period:
- Course Development (term 1): Spring 2025
- Course Teaching (term 2): Fall 2025
Faculty who wish to apply must complete all stages of the application process as described below, including:
- Secure approval from both their department chair/program director and dean
- Submit a complete application no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, 2024.
