W. M. Keck Research Program Grants Available

The W. M. Keck Foundation has awarded past grants to major universities, independent research institutions, and medical schools to support pioneering biological and physical science research and engineering, including the development of promising new technologies, instrumentation or methodologies.
The median range for a request is $1.2M over three years. The investigator must have a very strong rationale for any request over $1.2M. The funder provides Concept Counseling from Jan. 1 to Feb. 15, 2025 for institutional nominees. Participation in concept counseling is not required, though strongly encouraged.
Successful project proposals must meet the following criteria:
- Focus on important and emerging areas of research
- Have potential to develop breakthrough technologies, instrumentation, or methodologies
- Are innovative, distinctive, and interdisciplinary
- Demonstrate a high level of risk due to unconventional approaches or challenge the prevailing paradigm
- Have potential for transformative impact such as the founding of a new field of research, enabling of new observations, or altering perception of a previously intractable problem
- Fall outside the mission of public funding agencies
- Demonstrate that W. M. Keck Foundation support is essential to the project’s success
Guidance for the Nomination Process
To be considered for SLU’s submissions, interested faculty should submit a brief abstract, a 3-4 page project summary, and a C.V. or biosketch through via by 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, 2024.
Applicants will be notified of the outcome by Monday, Nov. 11, 2024, barring any unforeseen circumstances, to be prepared for Concept Counseling. OVPR is providing extra time to allow the selected applicant to contact the Foundation’s optional pre-application concept counseling period.
