Additional Scholarship Opportunities

There are a number of international external fellowship and scholarship opportunities funded by independent organizations with a dedicated interest in promoting global education. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but it provides a starting point if you’re interested in seeking additional financial aid.

is the premier resource for financial aid, college scholarship and grant information for U.S. and international students wishing to study abroad. At this site, you will find the most comprehensive college scholarship search and grant listings plus international student loan programs and other information to promote study abroad.

contains a collection of scholarships available to students when they study abroad. Scholarships are broken into the following categories: merit-based, student-specific, destination-specific, program-specific and subject-specific.

Institute of International Education Study Abroad Funding

features detailed descriptions of hundreds of study abroad scholarships, fellowships, grants and paid internships for U.S. undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate students, and professionals.

Exploring Abroad

includes a list of general scholarships, as well as scholarships specific to Asia, Australia, Europe and South America.

Financial Aid for Any Program

This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-­year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.

Boren Scholarships and Fellowships provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to add an important international and language component to their educations.

This is a program of U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

The Davis-­Putter Scholarship Fund awards up to $10,000 to students with financial need who have been and continue to be active in social/economic movement, justice and peace. This scholarship can apply to study abroad if the program contains a social justice component.

Diversity Abroad, in cooperation with AIFS, offers 10 $500 scholarships for full-time undergraduate (both community college and university level) students studying abroad during spring and fall semesters.

The Foundation for Global Scholars is a 501(c)(3) non­profit organization located in Denver whose mission is to create global citizens and leaders by assisting students in achieving their personal and professional goals of obtaining cultural and academic experiences abroad. The foundation will support this mission by awarding scholarships to help enable students to obtain an international experience. Students who are from under-represented populations in international education are a priority.

The Fulbright-mtvU grant is giving students the opportunity to immerse themselves in international culture by awarding those students with unique projects that utilize the power of music to encourage mutual understanding.

The Ambassadorial Scholarships Program of the Rotary Foundation is the world's largest privately funded international scholarship program. An average of 800 scholarships are awarded annually. Through grants totaling approximately $26 million, recipients from some 69 to 70 countries travel abroad to study in other countries.

InternationalStudent.com sponsors a travel video contest. This contest is held almost every year with a grand prize of $4,000 and several runner-­up prizes.

(rising seniors, graduate students)

Initially founded by the Whitaker Foundation, the Whitaker Program supports international collaboration in the growing field of biomedical engineering, from graduating seniors to post-­doctorate degree holders. The award covers travel, living expenses and tuition for fellows (partial or full, depending on host university).

The Go Overseas Study Abroad Scholarship is open to all current or aspiring study abroad students. Scholarships are awarded each year. The scholarship is awarded based on the creativity and analytical thinking displayed through writing samples, photos and/or video submissions.

Financial Aid for Specific Locations

Scandinavia
The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) offers fellowships and grants to graduate students interested in study or research in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Awards are granted for up to a year in any field of study.
East/Southeast Asia
Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (¹ó°ù±ð±ð³¾²¹²Ô-­´¡³§±õ´¡) provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.
Beijing
The Beijing Center offers three $1,000 semester scholarships to U.S. students. These are academically awarded and require a brief essay. You must be accepted into the Beijing Center program to apply.
Germany
Graduate: Undergraduate: Study scholarships provide highly qualified individuals with an opportunity to do independent study in Germany or to complete a full master's degree program at a German university. All fields of study are eligible. The language of instruction for most programs is English.
Budapest, Hungary

Adorjan Scholarship Program, Hungary-¶¶ÒõproThis program funds the exchange of students between ¶¶Òõpro, Saint Louis University-Madrid and Pazmany Peter University in Budapest, Hungary. The scholarship covers travel and extra costs of attending one of the partner institutions, and will provide the additional support needed for students who might not normally afford a study abroad experience, ranging $2,000-$5,000.

Rome
The John Felice Rome Center offers various awards exclusively for students enrolled in accredited, baccalaureate-granting U.S. institutions who will study abroad at the center during a subsequent semester.
Japan
The Association of Teachers of Japanese sponsors the Bridging Scholarship to help undergraduates attending a study abroad program in Japan with their travel and living expenses.
Seoul, South Korea
Sogang University awards the Sogang Global Scholarship, which covers about 50 -% of the on-­campus dormitory fee, to a select number of exchange students.
Madrid
Robert Tieken and Cristina Acosta Scholarship SLU-Madrid provides tuition scholarships to a select number of U.S. students who have been accepted to study abroad at SLU’s campus in Spain.
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Vietnam semester scholarships are available for visiting students studying abroad at the Loyola Vietnam Center who demonstrate financial need. Contact the study abroad team for additional information.
