The Office of Inclusion and Diversity Education collaborates across the School of Law to develop and implement the following goals:
Goal 1. Collaboratively Develop and Implement Guiding Principles to Shape Strategic
Choices in the School of Law’s Activities to Increase Diversity and Inclusive ¶¶Òõpro
- Work with Student Affinity Organizations Council
- Serve on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee (faculty)
- Gather information on existing programs within the law school
- Identify and gather information on existing coursework related to diversity and inclusiveness
- Conduct survey of staff, students, and faculty on law school inclusivity/climate
- Research and develop best policies and practices
Goal 2. Create, Nurture and Maintain Existing Alumni, Student, Staff and Faculty Partnerships
Dedicated to Increasing Diversity and Inclusiveness
- Serve as a liaison between the law school and the University’s Division of Diversity and Innovative Community Engagement
- Serve as an active resource for campus-based diversity and affinity groups
- Create pipeline programs at the School of Law
- In collaboration with the associate dean, host teaching group discussions about teaching and addressing sensitive issues in the classroom
- Serve on hiring committee (faculty appointments)
- Meet with alumni to discuss ways to improve diversity and inclusiveness at the law school
- Join Affinity Bar Associations and discuss possible diversity and inclusion collaborations
- Meet with law firms to discuss ways to collaborate to improve diversity and inclusion in the law school and the greater St. Louis area
- Establish a database of current partnerships dedicated to increasing diversity and inclusiveness
- Work actively with the School of Law’s development team to create new funding streams to expand resources available for the School of Law’s diversity and inclusion efforts
Goal 3. Develop and Implement Mandatory Diversity Training
- Plan and implement faculty and staff diversity training
- Work collaboratively with the associate dean for student services and the associate dean for academic affairs, plan and implement mandatory student training
Goal 4. Make Diversity and Inclusiveness an Institutional Priority
- Work with Student Services and Career Services in developing diverse and inclusive student programs
- Work with student organizations to host Diversity Week
- Work in partnership Admissions, in recruiting diverse law school applicants
- Serve on admissions committee and work together on admissions policies to develop best practices
- Attend statewide and national professional conference(s) to hone expertise on the issues, to network with diversity professionals, and to raise awareness about the School of Law’s diversity efforts
