A Day in the Clinic Life

Internal medicine residency at SLU is premised on the idea that medicine is best learned at the bedside with active reflection and feedback to hone performance.

Our residents have roughly two-thirds of their rotations at our main teaching hospital, , and one-third at .

A typical day looks like this:

8:00 a.m.

Start seeing patients in assigned or elective specialty clinics. On assigned or elective consult rotations, start seeing consult patients as assigned by the fellow

8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Staff patients with clinic faculty or round on consult patients with specialty faculty.
12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. Noon Conference
1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Finish rounding on consult services. 

See patients in assigned or elective specialty clinics.

Continuity clinic days:

See primary care patients independently and staff with clinic preceptor. This is one half-day a week for interns and two half-days a week on ambulatory blocks for senior residents.
