Audiology Externship

¶¶Òõpro's School of Medicine offers a one-year audiology externship at SLUCare audiology clinics located throughout the greater St. Louis area. SLU's audiology externship experience focuses on clinical care to various patient populations using the latest technology in the assessment of auditory, vestibular, and aural rehabilitative services. This program provides clinical experiences and skills that enable practitioners to provide quality audiometric care.

Our externs are encouraged to participate in the Department of Otolaryngology’s educational component, which supplements the clinic experience by providing first-hand experience with surgical and non-surgical treatments for various otologic and vestibular disorders.

Curriculum

Facilities

SLUCare Audiology has two clinic locations which primarily serve the adult population. Pediatric clinical experience may include SLUCare affiliate SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center.

Clinic Hours

Based on a 40-hour workweek, Mondays through Fridays.

Stipend

Externs receive a stipend during the 10-12 months of the program. Contact the program director for further information.

Housing

Externs are responsible for providing their own living accommodations and transportation.

Graduation and Certification

Upon successful completion of the audiology externship, you will receive a certificate of completion from the ¶¶Òõpro School of Medicine's Department of Otolaryngology, Division of Audiology.

Application Process

Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited doctor of audiology program. Candidates must have completed the didactic portion of the degree before being admitted to the externship program. Additional requirements include immunization, health insurance and medical malpractice insurance provided by your current academic institution.

Application packets must include:
• Curriculum Vitae and statement of your professional goals
• Non-refundable $30 application fee (check or money order) payable to Saint Louis
  University
• Three original letters of recommendation (at least two from health professionals)
• All official academic transcripts from colleges and/or universities
• Record of immunization
• Proof of malpractice insurance

Applicants considered for appointment will be invited to ¶¶Òõpro School of Medicine for a personal interview with the program director, selected faculty and staff. Appointment letters are mailed at the end of August.

Letters of acceptance/rejection should be expected no later than the third week of September. The audiology externship program runs for 10-12 months.
